Bayshore Beautiful

The names of Bayshore Beautiful’s oak-canopied streets read like a Who’s Who of city founders. Among them are streets named for William (Himes), state senator and legendary attorney, William (Fielder), who supplied goods for shipping vessels and their crews, Dr. WE (Dorchester), who left the profession of dentistry for real estate and had exclusive leasing rights to downtown’s most important buildings, WD (Bailey), owner of Bailey the Clothier, a high-end men’s store on Franklin Street, and Chester (Chapin), whose influence led to the laying of streetcar tracks from downtown to Ballast Point, bringing about the development of practically every neighborhood on the south side of El Prado Boulevard.
