Savings for Strengthening Your Home

Savings on the cost of home repairs and potential savings on homeowners insurance? Sign me up! This won’t last long so you’d better hurry…

the program

Initially launched in 2022 as part of a sweeping property insurance reform bill, the My Safe Florida Home program incentivizes Florida homeowners to strengthen their properties for hurricane season. The state will pay $2 for every $1 spent, up to the program’s $10,000 maximum, in the form of a matching grant.

As an example, let’s say you’re spending $15,000 on new windows or doors. Taking advantage of the My Safe Florida Home program means you’ll get $10,000 back - effectively reducing your out-of-pocket cost to $5,000. Even better, there will be NO state sales tax on retail purchases of impact-resistant doors, impact-resistant garage doors and impact-resistant windows from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024. Ummm, seems like a no-brainer, right?

eligibility

As of July 1, 2023, the program is now open to homeowners with an insured property value of $700,000 or less (previously $500,000). To qualify, homeowners must show proof of homestead exemption and the initial building construction permit for the home must have been issued prior to January 1, 2008. Individuals interested in this program are required to have a free home hurricane inspection through the My Safe Florida Home Program.
