Downtown
Fifty years ago, Tampa’s downtown waterfront was little more than warehouses. The view up the river was industrial and bleak. Fast forward to 2003, when Mayor Pam Iorio prioritized the idea first proposed by 1970s mayor William Poe: The Riverwalk. Anticipating its installation, construction was undertaken on the 33-story SkyPoint condominium, and the renaissance of downtown Tampa was officially underway. Today, residential occupancy exceeds 90%, mostly college graduates without kids. Residents revel in its walkable restaurants, boutiques and seemingly endless options for entertainment, fitness, arts and culture.
