Harbour Island
In 1906, railroad engineer WL Seddon dredged a channel next to Grassy Island, changed its name to Seddon Island, and built a port facility. Seventy-three years later, the island was sold to Beneficial Land Corporation for residential, retail and office development. Envisioning a bustling waterfront like Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Beneficial’s chief exec renamed it Harbour Island. Today, the island comprises high-end residential areas, waterfront dining, boutiques, an athletic club and an upscale hotel. Residents love the electric trolley connecting Harbour Island to downtown and the Channel District.
