New Suburb Beautiful

In 1905, Tennessean Alfred Swann convinced his law partner, Eugene Holtsinger, to move their firm to the nascent city of Tampa. Together they developed Suburb Beautiful, Bayshore Boulevard’s first neighborhood. In 1923, developer Allen Simms platted it and two other neighborhoods to form New Suburb Beautiful. “Planted parkways have added to the natural beauty of lots upon which master craftsmen have built houses ready for occupancy” announced the January 6, 1924 edition of the Tampa Tribune. The real estate crash that followed the boom led many homes to be sold, but a number of them are still owned by the original families.
